Although I am not very versed in the arts, I am still aware that that a thriving arts and culture community has personally cast light on that which I am ignorant of, has led me to become more introspective and thoughtful as well as stimulating emotional awareness and compassion. In this arena I have rediscovered my humanity.

Arts, Culture and Heritage – Position Statement Robert (Bob) Hildebrandt – Candidate for Pelham Ward 3 Councillor Arts, culture and heritage are important to maintaining Pelham’s identity, strengthening community connections and making our municipality an attractive place to live, work and visit. During my eight years on Pelham Town Council, I have recognized the value of supporting cultural activities, local artists, community organizations and heritage initiatives that contribute to our quality of life. My community involvement includes four years on the Pelham Art Advisory Committee and eight years on the Pelham Seniors Advisory Committee. These experiences have strengthened my appreciation for the importance of cultural opportunities, community participation and programs that serve residents of all ages. My priorities include: Supporting local arts and artists: Encourage opportunities for local artists and cultural organizations to showcase their work and contribute to community life. Preserving our heritage: Recognize and protect Pelham’s historical buildings, landmarks, traditions and stories, ensuring that future generations understand our community’s history. Accessible cultural programming: Support arts, cultural events and activities that are welcoming and accessible to residents of all ages, including families, youth and seniors. Community partnerships: Work collaboratively with local arts organizations, volunteers, schools, businesses and community groups to expand cultural opportunities and make effective use of available resources. Responsible financial management: Support sustainable investment in arts, culture and heritage while balancing these priorities with other municipal responsibilities and the need to maintain affordable taxes. My education in Engineering and Management Science from the University of Waterloo, together with more than 30 years of professional engineering and management experience, has shaped my approach to public service: listen to the community, evaluate the options, work collaboratively and make informed decisions. As a long-time Fonthill resident, I believe Pelham’s arts, culture and heritage are essential parts of what makes our community special. I will continue to support initiatives that celebrate our local identity, preserve our history and provide meaningful cultural opportunities for residents today and for generations to come.
